Taftville man sentenced to 25 years in prison on drug, firearm charges

A Taftville man on Thursday was sentenced to 25 years in prison for drug conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine said in a news release.

Erick Adams, 40, was charged with conspiracy to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute, 280 grams or more of cocaine base, along with "being an armed career criminal in possession of firearms," the news release stated.

U.S. District Court Judge George Z. Singal sentenced Adams to 25 years in prison and five years of supervised release.

According to court records, Adams and co-conspirators distributed crack, cocaine and heroin from "trap houses" in Biddeford, Maine, between December 2014 and January 2016.

On Jan. 6, 2016, Adams and an armed co-conspirator were arrested at a hotel room in Saco, Maine, officials said. Law enforcement agents said they seized about 103 grams of crack, 33 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of heroin and $26,000.

The next day, agents went to a storage unit and seized about 685 grams of crack, 69 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of heroin and four handguns. Due to multiple prior felony convictions, Adams was prohibited from possessing firearms, the U.S. attorney's office said.
