Body found off Old Saybrook coast identified as missing kayaker

Emergency crews on Tuesday recovered the body of 18-year-old William Zadrozny, a Clinton resident who went kayaking May 28 and never returned.

Chris Collibee, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said the body was found in the Long Island Sound off the coast of Old Saybrook. Collibee didn't say who spotted the body. State Environmental Conservation Police and Old Saybrook police were on scene.

Officials said last week that Zadrozny likely launched from North Cove, which is on the western side of the Connecticut River and shares a border with North Cove Road.

The Coast Guard began searching for Zadrozny after a good Samaritan found his overturned kayak about 5 p.m. May 28. A life jacket and fishing gear were inside.

On the afternoon of May 29, officials suspended the search.
