Crime prevention, beautification to be discussed at Groton City event

Groton — City police, blight and parks and recreation officials on June 14 will host an event to share crime prevention techniques and gauge residents’ interest in creating a beautification committee.

The event will start at 6 p.m. at the City of Groton Municipal Building, which is at 295 Meridian St.

Detective Sgt. Travis Winkelman and Lt. Erick Jenkins will teach residents and business owners steps they can take to avoid being burglarized or revictimized. They’ll also discuss a program police plan to roll out later this summer, in which detectives will respond to all burglaries, look at which factors might have led to them and work with residents and business owners to prevent the crimes.

In the same vein, city Blight Officer Glenn Frishman will host a session on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.

Then Parks and Recreation Director Mary Hill will explain the concept of a Beautification Committee and open the floor for discussion.

    Admission is free.
