Attempted abduction reported in Groton City

Groton — Police are looking for a suspect in a reported abduction attempt in the City of Groton on Monday.

The incident occurred about 3:07 p.m. Monday, when a female was walking alone near Shore Avenue and South Prospect Street, city police said in a news release on their Facebook page. Police did not release her age in the post. A male, who she said had been hiding between bushes, forcibly grabbed her. He then tried to force her inside a waiting vehicle, which had its passenger door open, she said. She fought back and managed to get away, though her hands were injured in the process.

The female reported the incident to city police Tuesday. She described the man as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and with an athletic build. She said he was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident. He fled in a white GMC pickup truck that may have been a two-door model and appeared very clean, she said. Police also posted a sketch based on the description she gave them.

The investigation is ongoing and police urge anyone who may have information about the incident to call (860) 445-2451.
