    Injured woman found on Route 12; Ledyard police investigating

    Ledyard — Police are seeking information about how a woman ended up in the breakdown lane of state Route 12 on Tuesday night with head injuries and abrasions.

    A caller at 10:24 p.m. reported the injured woman, who was located near Anderson Drive in the Gales Ferry part of town.

    Police said the 33-year-old woman was in a semi-conscious state when they arrived and couldn’t explain what had happened.

    Crews took her to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She later was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was in serious but stable condition Wednesday morning. Police said she has internal injuries in addition to her external ones.

    Police have not yet determined the cause of her injuries or whether they happened intentionally.

    Ledyard Ambulance, Gales Ferry firefighters, town detectives and the Accident Investigation Team assisted.
