Norwich police: Man had 11.6 grams of crack cocaine, $1,100 in cash

Norwich — City police said Friday they've arrested a wanted drug dealer in an ongoing crack cocaine distribution investigation.

According to a news release, Patrol Officer Christopher Chastang noticed a suspicious vehicle at a closed business at 39 Maennerchor Ave. in Taftville on Friday morning. He said a passenger in the vehicle gave him a false name and birth date when questioned, and as he was calling for backup, Chastang said he saw the passenger conceal a plastic baggie in his clothing.

Chastang later seized a baggie, which contained 11.6 grams of crack cocaine, from the passenger, who was identified as 25-year-old Dashawn E. Favors of no certain address, Norwich. Favors also had $1,100 in cash, a digital scale, cellphones and narcotics packaging materials, according to the release.

Favors, who police say was the subject of an ongoing investigation of crack cocaine distribution in the region and for whom an arrest warrant was issued earlier this year, was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was found to have two other outstanding arrest warrants and additionally was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court and second-degree failure to appear in court.

Favors was being held on $350,000 cash/surety bonds and is scheduled to appear Monday in Norwich Superior Court.
