Police: 2 cars stolen, 4 burglarized in Montville

Montville — Four cars were burglarized and two others were stolen early Thursday, including one belonging to former Emergency Management Director Ray Occhialini, police Lt. Leonard Bunnell said.

Bunnell said Occhialini’s black 2018 Hyundai Tucson was stolen from Andersen Lane and later found in Hartford.

A white 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe with Connecticut plates that read WLP6389, taken from Lake Drive, remains missing.

Keys were left inside both vehicles, Bunnell said.

Bunnell said the thief or thieves also rummaged through one car on Mayo Avenue, two on Lake Drive and another on Florida Drive, sometimes stealing items from within.

“The area has gone from north of Oxoboxo Lake to Old Colchester (Road) headed south to the (Montville) Manor and beyond,” he said. “That’s quite a big area. In order for someone to cover this much area, they’ve got to be dropped off. Walking through would’ve taken way too much time.”

“I’m just telling people they’ve got to keep their cars locked,” Bunnell said.

State police also are investigating a rash of car break-ins and thefts in Colchester and Salem. One of the cars stolen out of Salem also was recovered in Hartford.

Anyone with information about the Montville thefts can call town police at (860) 848-7510.
