New London — City police arrested a 33-year-old man and charged him with first-degree assault in connection with a stabbing early Friday evening on Oneco Avenue.

Police responded to 73 Oneco Ave. at approximately 4:30 p.m. and located an unidentified male stabbing victim who was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police secured the scene and initiated a search with a K-9 unit. In a news release late Friday night, police said they found suspect Sean Swasey, of no certain address, and a knife allegedly used in the stabbing, in a nearby wooded area.

Swasey, who police said knew the victim, was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Swasey is being held on a $50,000 cash surety bond. In addition to the assault charge, he faces charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, breach of peace and interfering with an officer.

New London police encouraged anyone with information to call (860) 447-5269 ext. 0 or to send anonymous information by texting NLPDTips plus the information to Tip411 (847411).
