New London — City and state police in the Statewide Narcotics Task Force-East arrested a New London man Tuesday and charged him with a host of drug offenses and assault on an officer, with police saying the man bit an officer.

Police said they arrested Russell Dailey, 60, of 153 Garfield Ave., near 27 Water St. just before noon Tuesday as part of a quality-of-life patrol addressing narcotics activity in the city.

Police said they seized a plastic bag containing about 2.2 grams of crack cocaine, 1.8 grams of crack cocaine wrapped in paper and approximately 4.4 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl; a second plastic baggie containing 3.5 grams of cocaine; and a third plastic baggie containing almost 6 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl; a syringe, a cellphone and $816 in cash.

Capt. Brian Wright alleged an officer was bitten by Dailey but said the officer's skin was not broken.

Dailey faces three counts of possession of narcotics; three counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell; possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and assault on a police officer.

Police did not immediately respond to a message seeking Dailey's bond status and next court date.
