Hundreds of Santas to converge on New London in December

New London — An event planned for Dec. 9 could bring as many as 900 runners and walkers in Santa suits to downtown New London.

Run for a Claus is a new 2.5-mile race that starts and finishes on Bank Street and loops around Fort Trumbull State Park. Entry in the race includes a complete Santa suit and a post-race party at Hot Rod Cafe.

A half-mile Hartford Marathon FitKids run will take place for ages 2-11. A portion of event proceeds will benefit Covenant Shelter of New London and participants are asked to bring donations of paper goods to support the shelter's most urgent needs.

This race is part of HMF's new HO HO HOliday series, a three-race challenge that includes the Norwich Winterfest 5K on Dec. 1 and the Blue Back Mitten Run in West Hartford on Dec. 2. Each event benefits a community organization and has a donation drive. Series participants receive a holiday ornament in addition to swag at each event.
