New London woman suffers 'significant' burns in stove fire Sunday

New London — A woman suffered “significant burns” and a man suffered a minor burn in a stove fire at a home at 175 Oneco Ave. Sunday evening, New London Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Waters said.

The fire was called in at 7:36 p.m., and firefighters found the kitchen had been damaged from what started as a stove fire. All three occupants, a man, woman and a young child, who was uninjured, were outside when firefighters arrived, Waters said.

The woman had suffered significance burns and was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital by New London Fire Department Ambulance. The man suffered minor burns and refused treatment on the scene. Their identities were not available Sunday night.

Firefighters ventilated the building to remove smoke from the house, while ensuring that the fire was extinguished and had not spread, Waters said.

New London police and an L+M paramedic assisted in the response to the incident.
