New London — A Friday morning blaze significantly damaged the second floor of the multipurpose building at 464 Montauk Ave., Battalion Chief Mark Waters said.

Waters said firefighters were on scene within three minutes of 7:05 a.m., when Mondovi Dental, situated on the first floor, reported the flames.

Firefighters forced their way into the two-story building and used a hose and extinguisher to put out the flames.

Records show John Allen of Niantic owns the building, which was built in 1900.

No one was injured in the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
