Ledyard police ID man who died in Monday motorcycle crash
Ledyard — Police said a 68-year-old Norwich man died after crashing his motorcycle on Avery Hill Road near Marlene Drive Monday afternoon.
Police said the Harley-Davidson driven by Antonio Barboza, of 47 Wawecus Hill Road, Norwich, was the only vehicle involved in the 2 p.m. crash.
Although Barboza was wearing a helmet and became responsive while on scene, police described his injuries as serious and initially called for a Life Star helicopter. Ultimately an ambulance crew took him to The William W. Backus Hospital while a wrecker towed the motorcycle from the scene.
Police said they learned from a charge nurse about 4 p.m. that Barboza had lost his pulse and died. The Accident Reconstruction Team closed the road for a time and is investigating the cause of the crash.
