Good Samaritan, Coast Guard help pair from capsized boat south of Race Rock
New London — The Coast Guard says a good Samaritan helped rescue two individuals from a capsized 15-foot boat south of Race Rock Lighthouse in Long Island Sound on Friday afternoon.
The good Samaritan reported the capsizing to the Coast Guard and brought the pair safely on board his vessel, the Coast Guard said Friday evening. The Coast Guard launched a boat from New London and a vessel from TowBoatUS arrived, though the rescued individuals declined towing services.
The pair then was transferred to a Coast Guard vessel and brought to New London. With the capsized boat still in the Sound, the Coast Guard said it was sending a safety broadcast and monitoring reports on the vessel's position. No injuries were reported.
