    State police arrest wrong-way driver on I-395 in Norwich

    A Norwich man is facing drunken driving and several other charges after police said he allegedly was driving the wrong way on both Route 2A in Montville and Interstate 395 in Norwich early Thanksgiving morning.

    Police charged Faissal A. Awad, 61, of 125 McKinley Ave., first floor, with reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was held on a $5,000 cash bond was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Norwich Superior Court.

    State police at Troop E in Montville said they received a report at 1:46 a.m. Thursday of a Subaru Outback traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 2A in Montville.

    Seven calls reported the incident and multiple troopers located the vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lane on I-395 near Exit 13. Sgt. Nicholas Tewell stopped the vehicle in the left lane just prior to Exit 13.

    Awad was taken into custody without incident, police said.
