    Three charged with assaulting a disabled man Sunday in Norwich

    Norwich — Two brothers and an unrelated juvenile were arrested on assault charges after a Sunday evening incident that left a disabled male with a serious head injury, police said.

    Matthew E. Wooldridge, 23, of 60 Terminal Way was charged with second-degree assault on an elderly or disabled person and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned Monday and is next scheduled to appear Jan. 22 in Norwich Superior Court.

    His brother, Brian A. Wooldridge, 18, of 5 Central Ave. was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held initially on a $2,500 bond with a Dec. 26 court date. The juvenile also charged in the incident was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

    Police said officers were dispatched to 5 Maple St. for an ongoing assault reported by a neighbor in the apartment building. Police found the victim, who has developmental disabilities, with a “significant injury.” The victim told police he was assaulted by three individuals. Police said the victim had a serious head injury and possible fractured skull. Information on the victim’s condition was not available Monday evening.
