Groton man arrested in multiple burglaries of power tools

East Lyme — Police have arrested a 48-year-old Groton man who allegedly stole backpack blowers and chainsaws in two burglaries on Oct. 22, according to an incident report from East Lyme police.

Michael Peck, whose last known address was a room at Rodeway Inn, was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and fifth-degree larceny.

Police responded to two reports of residential burglaries, one on Walnut Hill Road and one on Grassy Hill Road, on Oct. 22, authorities said. They found that one involved forced entry through a window on the first floor and the other was in an unlocked shed.

Detectives later found the missing items on Craigslist and Letgo. Police said they began communicating with Peck, and found that the model and serial numbers of power equipment matched those of power equipment stolen recently in a Salem burglary.

Peck agreed to meet on Oct. 28 to sell power equipment and was arrested, police said. As part of the investigation, police found that Peck allegedly committed other burglaries in East Lyme and elsewhere in Connecticut.

East Lyme police obtained an arrest warrant for Peck, and City of Groton police took him into custody on Wednesday night, police said. He was held overnight on two $50,000 bonds and arraigned in New London Superior Court on Thursday.

East Lyme police expect other departments in the state to seek arrest warrants for Peck.
