State Bond Commission approves reimbursement for Norwich police body cameras

Norwich — The state Bond Commission this week approved $146,653 to reimburse the city for 50% of the cost to purchase police body cameras for all city officers and electronic video storage equipment.

Norwich Police Chief Patrick Daley said the cameras have been purchased and in use since January. He said there were initial problems at first with cameras becoming dislodged from officers’ uniforms, but there have been no major issues with the technology.

“Body cameras have proven very effective in increasing safety and transparency for law enforcement and the public the cities and towns they have been implemented," state Rep. Emmett Riley, D-Norwich, said in a news release announcing approval of the reimbursement. “I am pleased with the approval of this funding that will enhance the delivery of law enforcement services in Norwich.”
