New London man charged in Norwich home invasion, assault

Norwich — A New London man was arrested on multiple assault and other charges stemming from an alleged home invasion and assault on Broad Street and an attempt to flee police.

Javanie G. Nelson, 24, of 9 Buchanan Road, New London, was charged at 4 p.m. Monday with home invasion, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, interfering with police and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 15 in Norwich Superior Court.

Police said Nelson allegedly forced his way into the victim’s apartment and reportedly restrained and assaulted her and her child because of an unpaid debt between the two. After he fled the apartment, police said, Nelson engaged an officer in a foot pursuit before he was caught and arrested.
