New London man charged with operating drug factory near school
New London — A city man was charged Tuesday with operating a drug factory near a school, police say.
Corey Harris, 20, of 172 Ashcraft Road was charged Tuesday night with operating a drug factory and possessing drugs, including narcotics, with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, according to the New London Police Department.
Harris, who lives near New London High School, was arrested after police went to his home to execute search and arrest warrants for another person, according to police. Details about that arrest were not immediately available.
In addition to operating a drug factory, Harris also was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and altering the serial number on a firearm.
He was found to be in possession of about 35 grams of a white rock-like substance and about 21 grams of a beige powder, some of which was packaged in individual bags, police said. He also was found in possession of oxycontin pills, suboxone, over $400 in cash, an unknown amount of counterfeit cash, drug paraphernalia and a semi-automatic handgun with part of the serial number removed, according to Capt. Brian Wright of the New London police.
The charge of operating a drug factory may stem from Harris creating drugs, or altering drugs by adding other substances, Wright said.
