Niantic man charged with damaging property at multiple homes, garden center in East Lyme

East Lyme — A Niantic man was arrested Wednesday on charges related to a disturbance the day before in the vicinity of Main Street and Black Point Road that resulted in damage to multiple homes and a business.

Justin T. Ebersole, 41, of 14 Crossley Court was charged with breach of peace and three counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

Ebersole, who was described in a Tuesday police report as "combative" and having multiple lacerations, was taken into protective custody by multiple officers that afternoon. The report said Niantic Fire Department Ambulance transported him to the hospital for treatment.

In an updated arrest report Wednesday, police said Ebersole admitted to consuming narcotics prior to the incident.

The initial report said calls started coming in about 1:15 p.m. about a barefoot man yelling on Black Point Road, followed by reports that he was smashing windows and screens on multiple houses. Police found him at Smith's Acres garden center on West Main Street, where they said he was damaging products and was "highly combative."

Ebersole was released pending a June 15 court appearance at New London Superior Court, police said.
