Pedestrian killed by vehicle in Preston last Saturday

Preston — A New York City man died after being struck by a vehicle while walking along Route 2 last Saturday night, state police said in an accident report.

Police said Jason Acosta, 38, was walking on Route 2 westbound near Spicer Road and Ross Road when a Honda Odyssey traveling west struck Acosta, who was fatally injured. This occurred around 8:53 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Police identified the driver as Barry Spaulding and said he had one passenger in his vehicle. Both are of Portsmouth, R.I. The accident report said they had no apparent injuries.

The report, signed Aug. 8, said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Trooper Raymond Sulich at (860) 848-6500. A state police spokesperson said Saturday the investigation is ongoing and didn't answer further questions.

Police didn't email the accident report to media but included the report in their media binder this past week at Troop E in Montville.

Last Saturday, police had said at least one person was taken to the hospital with injuries after being struck by a vehicle near Route 2 and Mathewson Mill Road.
