Man arrested after he is discovered hiding in Old Lyme home

Old Lyme — A 16-year-old Old Lyme resident arrived home Monday to find a Jeep Cherokee with no license plates in his garage and an unknown, shirtless man in his home.

The result of the discovery was the arrest of a 30-year-old Gales Ferry man on burglary and trespassing charges.

Old Lyme officers were called about 5:55 p.m. to set up a perimeter around the 11 Meeting House Lane home while trying to contact the man inside. After several unsuccessful attempts at contact, police entered the home.

Old Lyme officers, aided by a K-9 team from Troop E in Montville, found the intruder hiding in an upstairs bathroom. The man was later identified as Benjamin Dahm of 1538 Route 12, Apt. 29, in Gales Ferry.

Dahm is charged with third-degree burglary, disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal trespassing. Held in lieu of a $50,000 bond, he was due to appear Tuesday in New London Superior Court.

Court records show Dahm has seven pending cases in three different jurisdictions on misdemeanor larceny charges and numerous motor vehicle violations.
