    East Lyme police sergeant injured in vehicle crash

    East Lyme — An East Lyme police sergeant was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning with minor injuries after another vehicle struck his cruiser, police said.

    Police said in a news release that Sgt. Jared Priest was on patrol and traveling east on Main Street. He was waiting to turn left into the Cini Park parking lot, as he helped with the investigation of a "suspicious vehicle," when another eastbound vehicle, driven by New London resident Silvia Vallejo, struck the rear of the cruiser at 7:05 a.m.

    Priest was taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of minor injuries, police said in the news release. Vallejo was uninjured.

    Police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
