One dead in Groton crash that leaves mobile home damaged

Groton — One person is dead after a car crashed into a mobile home on Buddington Road on Friday, police said.

The crash occurred at 1:49 p.m. at the Eastwood Mobile Homes, 301 Buddington Road in Groton.

Groton Town police said a 2007 Toyota Avalon, believed to be traveling north from the upper lot of the mobile home area and headed downhill, crashed into a mobile home in the lower lot, causing the mobile home to become dislodged from its foundation.

Groton Town police responded with the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Groton Ambulance and medics from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. The sole occupant of the vehicle was found unresponsive inside the vehicle and was immediately transported to L+M Hospital, where the individual was pronounced deceased.

Police were withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

A person who was inside the mobile home at the time of the crash was not injured. Due to the extensive damage to the home, a local building inspector deemed the residence uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident, police said.

The cause of this crash is under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact Groton Town police at (860) 441-6712.
