Woman wanted on multiple warrants arrested after getting lost, asking for directions in Ledyard

Ledyard — A woman who said she was lost and knocked on a stranger's door for directions in Ledyard early Tuesday was arrested after police learned she was wanted on warrants out of Groton and Massachusetts.

Sherri Wright, 49, of Brooklyn was charged with being a fugitive from justice and second-degree failure to appear in court, according to the Ledyard Police Department.

About 3:25 a.m., a person who lives on Vinegar Hill Road in Ledyard called police to report that a woman knocked on their front door to ask for directions. They pointed her in the direction of Whalehead Road, police said.

Officers responded to the area of Vinegar Hill Road and Ash Drive and found a woman walking. They stopped her to ask if she was OK, and she told them she was lost. She did not have any identification on her and told police her name was Jennifer Gryzb.

The woman was taken to the Ledyard Police Department, where she was identified as Sherri Wright. Police learned she had multiple warrants for her arrest, including a warrant from Groton Town Police for a charge of failure to appear in court and a warrant on drug charges out of Dudley, Mass., police said.

Wright was taken to New London Superior Court G.A. 10 on Tuesday morning and was being held on a $100,000 bond, police said.
