Police: Traffic stop leads to drug and gun charges in Groton

Groton City — A Griswold man was arrested this past week on drug and gun charges following a traffic stop.

According to a news release, an officer stopped a blue Honda Civic about 7:54 p.m. Thursday on the entrance ramp to Interstate 95 near the intersection of Bridge Street because of the dark tint on the front and side windows. Police said probable cause was developed to search the vehicle, which led to the alleged discovery of a gun stolen from South Carolina in 2020 as well as crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Luis Reyes, 19, of Griswold was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition, illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, tint violation and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Reyes was held on a $100,000 bond pending his appearance Friday at New London Superior Court.
