Groton police make two arrests in Noank disrupted car burglary

Groton — Town police said they arrested two men in connection with a disrupted car burglary late Tuesday in Noank.

According to a Town of Groton Police Department news release, a person called 911 about 11:06 p.m. Tuesday to report that two males were breaking into vehicles in Noank. Police officers arrived on scene and saw two men, dressed in dark clothes, running away.

An officer chased the two on foot and told them to stop and that he was a police officer, the department said Wednesday in the release.

“The two suspects ran behind a private residence, jumped over a fence and onto the rear pool deck of the residence,” the release stated. “The officer pursued the suspects behind the home where he caught up to one suspect and immediately detained him in handcuffs while verbally ordering the second suspect, who was on a raised portion of the pool deck, to get on the ground. The officer was then able to take the second suspect into custody and handcuffed him without incident.”

The officer sustained minor injuries during the foot chase, and the two men were not injured, according to the release.

Riley Rustic, 20, and Christian Cyr, 18, both of 36 Main St., Noank, were charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and second-degree breach of peace. Each was released on a $5,000 nonsurety bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court on May 10.

Police said they are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim of a car burglary or who has information that may help with the investigation to call the police department at (860) 441-6712.
