    Norwich attic fire displaces residents

    Norwich — A fire in the attic of the two-family home at 2-4 Broadway Terrace on Saturday has displaced the building's residents, the city fire department says.

    All occupants made it out of the building, the Norwich Fire Department said in a news release late Saturday night. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents; the number of displaced people was not immediately available.

    The department was dispatched to the 2½-story structure at 7:55 p.m., the release said. The first arriving crew found the blaze in the attic, and additional companies were called in to assist. The fire was placed under control at 8:18 p.m.

    American Ambulance, Norwich Police Department, the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department FAST team assisted city firefighters at the scene, while the Taftville, Yantic, East Great Plain and Laurel Hill fire department staged nearby to assist if needed. Norwich Public Utilities and the city Building Department also responded.

    The Norwich Fire Marshals Office is investigating the fire.
