    Groton City police investigate accident Monday on Clarence B. Sharp Highway

    Groton — City police said they are continuing to investigate a motor vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Clarence B. Sharp Highway.

    After receiving a call at 2:49 p.m., police responded and found a two-vehicle accident in which one person had serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, according to a news release. Police said two people were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London; one person was transported via Life Star helicopter from L+M to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

    According to the news release, witnesses reported that a vehicle heading north on the highway was weaving in and out of traffic, crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle heading south. Police said the driver of the first vehicle, a 58-year-old man, was taken to L+M.

    The driver of the second vehicle, a 66-year-old Groton man, was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating under suspension, misuse of plates, operating without insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, according to the release.
