New London man charged with illegal gun possession
New London — City police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old New London man who was allegedly carrying a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun without a permit.
Monolito Johnson II of 87 Blinman St. was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Police said the arrest was part of an investigation by the department’s vice and intelligence investigators working with members of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force - East. The officers were assigned to address illicit activities and recent violent crimes as part of the police department’s Quality of Life Initiative, police said in a statement.
Johnson is free after posting a $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear June 21 in New London Superior Court.
