Stonington -- Police say a man driving a motorcycle was seriously injured Saturday morning when he tried to avoid a stopped car on Route 1 at Lord's Hill Road.

The man, who name was not available, was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after the 10:54 a.m. crash.

Police said the motorcyclist was driving west on Route 1 behind two cars when the car in front of him went to the right to avoid a car that had stopped to make a left turn onto Lords Hill Road. In a successful effort to avoid the stopped car, police said the man laid down the motorcycle.

The department's accident reconstruction unit is investigating the crash.
