Workshops planned for those seeking Long Island Sound grants

Two online workshops will be offered in February for groups planning to apply for grants through the Long Island Sound Futures Fund, a federal and state partnership program of the Long Island Sound Study.

The workshops are recommended for those who have not previously applied, or have been previously turned down.

This year, approximately $800,000 is available. The grants are intended for projects to protect and restore the Sound, especially those focused on important fish and wildlife habitats, protect water resources or involve the community in improving water quality. Land acquisition funds are also available.

The workshops will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 16 and 18. The first will cover funding priorities for 2011, tips for preparing applications and use of the online system. The second will cover writing an application and using the online system. For information, visit: www.nfwf.org\lisff.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
