    NHL roundup

    Devils 3, Thrashers 1

Backup goalie Johan Hedberg made 28 saves and the New Jersey Devils beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 on Friday to snap a six-game losing streak and give Jacques Lemaire his first victory since replacing John MacLean behind the bench.

Lemaire lost his first three games after taking over for the fired MacLean on Dec. 23.

Rookie defenseman Mark Fayne scored his second NHL goal, captain Jamie Langenbrunner had his first in more than a month and Ilya Kovalchuk also scored for New Jersey.

Dustin Byfuglien had his 15th goal for Atlanta. He leads NHL defenseman in goals and points (40).

Islanders 4, Red Wings 3 (OT)

P.A. Parenteau scored on a power play at 3:57 of overtime to give the Islanders a victory over the Western Conference-leading Red Wings.

Parenteau put in a one-timer from the left faceoff dot for his ninth goal.

John Tavares had a goal and two assists, Matt Moulson and Jesse Joensuu also scored and Dwayne Roloson made 38 saves for New York. The Islanders, coming off a 2-1 shootout victory over Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.

    Canadiens 3, Panthers 2 (OT)

Montreal newcomer James Wisniewski scored his second goal of the game 3:41 into overtime to give the Canadiens a comeback victory over Florida.

Wisniewski, acquired from the New York Islanders on Tuesday, scored the winner off a rebound of Michael Cammalleri's shot. The defenseman had a power-play goal in the second period.
