Sound Advice 09-15-23
Welcome Home received a reader question about how to transform a backyard into an outdoor living space, and whether it may be best to hire a landscape designer or a landscape architect for the project. Realtor Carollen Speer offers some guidance:
“Landscape designers and architects alike will focus on the curb appeal and arrangement of the plant selection. However, a landscape architect will also focus on the structural design required to support the landscape. Education, licensing, training, and the type of project delineate the titles. A landscape designer is ideal for most residential projects, while a landscape architect would be necessary for larger commercial projects. If your yard requires retaining walls, grading, draining and major construction, a landscape architect may be deemed necessary.”
