    Clinton Education

    Old Morgan School, Clinton, Connecticut

Along with industry, a settlement needs to ensure the success of its youngest residents through education. Education was always important to Clinton and began early in the settlement. Clinton’s first elected rector, Abraham Pierson, founded the Collegiate School, which later became Yale. Under the guidance of Pierson, the Reverend Jared Eliot graduated from Yale and succeeded Pierson as Congregationalist minister, and served for 56 years.

In later years one of Clinton’s most successful and generous citizens, Charles Morgan, gave Clinton its high school, which was named The Morgan School in his honor. Today, Clinton continues to honor that tradition by recently committing to building a new high school to meet the needs of Clinton’s 21st-century learners. It will proudly wear the name The Morgan School.

From our waterfront to our woods, the Town of Clinton continues, on the 350th anniversary of its settlement, to serve residents and visitors alike with its history, beauty, commerce, and community spirit.
