    'How We Met' Contest Winners

We recently invited readers to submit the story of how they met for a chance to win a $200 gift card to Water's Edge Resort & Spa. Betsey Borden of Guilford was the readers' and editors' choice. Here is her story:

My husband, Bob, and I have known each other since 4th grade in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. We had both attended Sunday school classes at the same churches and were confirmed together in 1963. In 5th grade, our Sunday school class went to see the movie Ben Hur, and I had such a crush on Bob I could barely watch the movie.

We went through high school together until Bob moved to California senior year. Although we have many friends in common from our small town, we were in different social circles in high school and never really knew one

    another well.

I moved to Boston after college, married in 1985, and divorced in 1991. I adopted my daughter, Katharine, in 1992 from Wuhan, China. She was six months old and I became a single mother. Bob married in 1981, had a son, Kyle, in 1991 and was divorced in 1996 while teaching in Sacramento, California.

In June 1998, we both attended our 30th high school reunion in Glen Ridge. Immediate sparks flew (I did have a crush on Bob in 5th grade!) but we were living 3,000 miles apart.

Bob and Kyle came to visit Katharine and me in Lake Tahoe later that summer when we were visiting my cousin, Joan, and we all got along quite well. After a year of emails, cross-country flights, and countless phone calls, Bob asked me to marry him in the summer of 1999.

We were married July 8, 2000 at my family beach house in Madison with our children as attendants and both our extended families from around the country gladly blessing our marriage. We are still happily together 13 years later.
