The Lonesome Polecat: BRACKETOLOGY~! (FINAL UPDATE)

    Howdy,

    It's 2:54 a.m. on Thanksgrabbing.

Thanksgrabbing Week is always the most whacked out week of the state high school football season with wild finishes and upsets.

This has been the most deranged Connecticut high school football season I’ve ever covered, too.

Combine the two and you have whatever the hell happened Wednesday night across the state.

    To wit:

    • Masuk’s Jake Dellapiano intercepted a pass at midfield with 31 seconds left in the Panthers’ game against rival Newtown. Twenty five seconds later, Michael Epifano kicked a go-ahead 37-yard field goal to give Masuk a 24-21 win and clinch a CIAC Class L playoff berth.

Lee Schiavetti had THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR YARDS of total offense and SIX TOUCHDOWNS as Quinebaug Valley thrashed Thames River, 57-13, and kept the latter from qualifying for states for the first time.

    • There was mass confusion whether-or-not Hand had (unofficially) qualified for the Class L playoffs and Fitch was toast.

    • Hand didn't, which means that the Faclson can dream about the playoffs for another day even though their odds are about a mile past remote.

All that written, here is the updated (and, mercifully final) edition of BRACKETOLOGY~! for this daffy season.

    GROUND RULES

    1. We’ve listed a team’s high and low point totals as well as their bonuses.

Bonuses are the 15 points a team receives for a win by an opponent it beat and, ALL NEW FOR 2021, the five points it receives for a win by an opponent that defeated them.

    2. Guarantees are guaranteed points a team receives from a game involving two teams that they both played.

    3. No one officially qualifies until the CIAC football committee says so. They’ll rubber stamp everything the day after the end of the regular season, whenever that is.

    4. We’re going to be wrong about a bunch of these predictions because crazy stuff happens and this has been the most unhinged season we've ever covered.

    5. Just because we didn’t pick your team to qualify doesn’t mean we hate you. Hell, we don’t even know you, man.

    6. This is only an exhibition. This is not a competition. Please, no wagering.

    7. Thanks to Sean Patrick Star of GameTimeCT for his help. The two of us wasted far too much time the past few days night checking our respective playoff maths.

The state quarterfinals (Tuesday, Nov. 30) and semifinals (Sunday, Dec. 5) are hosted by the higher seeds. The finals are on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Willow Brook Park in New Britain and Trumbull High.

You're following football all wrong if you're not keeping an eye on Twitter at #cthsfb. It's like 24/7 news without screaming studio hosts.

    The following have (unofficially) qualified:

CLASS LL: Darien, Fairfield Prep, New Canaan, Hall and Shelton.

CLASS L: Maloney, St. Joseph, Naugatuck, Windsor, Cheney Tech and Masuk.
