    Around the region

    Meredith Healy (East Lyme), The Day’s 2021 girls’ soccer player of the year, scored her first collegiate goal for the Springfield women’s soccer team in a 6-0 win over Mount Holyoke on Saturday. A freshman forward, she has played in three games, starting one.

    • Also at Springfield, Blane Hart (East Lyme) is a junior halfback on the football team and junior Cam Hart plays linebacker while Aidan Greaves (Fitch) is a freshman wide receiver and sophomore Joe Klick (Norwich Free Academy) is a defensive lineman. Through three games, Cam Hart is third on the team in tackles with nine.

    • At Bucknell University, senior Sam Whittaker (East Lyme) led his team to a season-opening victory in the Bison Open, posting a winning time of 18 minutes, 28.1 seconds on the 6K course and beating the runner-up by 21 seconds. He placed third in the Siena Invitational, finishing the 8,000 meters in 24:59.9.

    • Freshman Callie Nanos (Lyman Memorial) has helped the Rivier College volleyball team off to a 7-1 start, appearing in four games.

    Luke Anthony (East Lyme), a three-time ECC champion, is a freshman runner on the Providence College men’s cross country team.

    • Freshman Jordan Malloy (Bacon Academy) finished in 10th place, helping the Stonehill College women’s cross country team place second out of 39 teams last weekend at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. She crossed the line at 18:21.

    • Sophomore Delaney Farinha (NFA) is a starting forward for the Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team. She has two goals – one shy of equaling her total for last season – and an assist in six games. One of her goals came in a 3-1 loss to No. 1 ranked Saint Rose.

    Tim Lynch (Fitch), a freshman midfielder, has started all seven games for the Endicott College men’s soccer team while freshman back Billy deCastro (Stonington) made his first collegiate appearance in a 2-1 loss at Saint Joseph’s in Maine.

    • Freshman middle blocker Savannah Soleau (East Lyme) made her Keene State College volleyball debut in a season-opening sweep of Anna Maria College.

    • At Salve Regina in Newport, R.I., freshman midfielder Aaron Muncaster (Montville) has appeared in six games, starting two, for the men’s soccer team.

    • The Bryant University men’s soccer team has three former Eastern Connecticut Conference players on its roster – sophomore defender Alex Ard (Waterford), freshman midfielder Daimon Pollard (Ledyard) and freshman midfielder Jacob Blanchard (Griswold). Ard has started the first six games while Pollard has played in four games.

    • Sophomore Colbe Andrews (Old Lyme) is a regular contributor on special teams for the University of New Haven football team. A wide receiver, Andrews transferred from Mass. Maritime Academy where he played quarterback last season.

    Nikki Hahn (East Lyme), a two-time winner of The Day’s swimmer of the year and three-time all-state selection, is attending Savannah College of Art and Design where she is competing for the women’s team.

    • Freshman midfielder Aidan McLoughlin (Bacon Academy) has come off the bench in four games for the WPI men’s soccer team.

    Sam Blumberger (Bacon Academy), a freshman midfielder, and freshman defender Micah Diggs (Fitch) are teammates on the Bloomsburg University men’s soccer team. Blumberger has come off the bench in four games and Diggs has played 24 minutes in two appearances.

    Lily Massung (East Lyme) is making an impact as a freshman defender for the Buffalo State women’s soccer team. She has played in all six games, starting three.

    • Sophomore forward/midfielder Kelsi Ursini (Fitch) scored her second goal of the season for the University of Saint Joseph women’s soccer team in a 1-1 tie with Norwich last week.

    Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme), a senior outside hitter, is a key contributor to the Simmons University volleyball team. A starter in all nine matches, she had 10 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Regis College.

    • Senior midfielder Caroline Wallace (Old Lyme) has a goal and assist so far this season for the Johnson & Wales women’s soccer team.

    • In six games, freshman forward Abigail Hanney (East Lyme) has chipped in two goals and two assists for the Colby Sawyer field hockey team.

    Nora Ryan (Fitch), a junior, had a match-high 16 kills for the Plymouth State volleyball team in a 3-1 win over the University of New England.

    Mariners riding a wave

    • Mitchell College senior Olivia DeLoach was named the New England Collegiate Conference volleyball player of the week after recording three double-doubles while leading the Mariners to three wins. In her most impressive contribution, she had 24 kills and 31 digs in a 3-2 win over Framingham State.

    • Teammate Julia Lent earned conference’s rookie of the week honors, averaging 4.73 digs per set. Off to a 6-2 start under first-year coach Tony Nocera, the Mariners have already equaled last year’s overall win total.

    • Sophomore defender Dylan Lucey (Lyman Memorial) received NECC men’s soccer player of the week honors, aiding the defense in a 1-0 loss to Eastern Connecticut and scoring his second goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Anna Maria.

    Tracking the Bears

    • Junior goalie Max Pfleghar earned New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference men’s soccer defensive athlete of the week. He posted two shutouts, leading the Bears to a 3-0 win over Salve Regina and a 0-0 tie with WPI. Coast Guard (4-0-1) has yet to allow a goal this season with Pfleghar and John Vaaler splitting the goal duties.

    Camel highlights

    • The Connecticut College men’s soccer team, the defending Division III national champions, saw its nine-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season end, falling to Bowdoin College, 1-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Freeman Field.

    Prior to that, the Camels (2-1-1, 0-1-1) last suffered a loss on Nov. 7, dropping a 2-0 decision to Tufts in the NESCAC championship game.
