    Around the region

    • Sophomore Delaney Farinha (Norwich Free Academy) scored her fourth goal of the season for the 17th-ranked Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team in a 2-0 shutout of New Haven on Tuesday. She is tied for second on the team in goals and points with 10.

    • Sophomore wide receiver Colbe Andrews (Old Lyme) had one catch for 35 yards and added a tackle in New Haven’s 67-20 win over Post University.

    • Senior setter Meg Verizzi (Lyman Memorial) chipped in 10 digs and 24 assists for the Eastern Connecticut State University volleyball team in a loss to Plymouth State on Oct. 22.

    • Freshman midfielder Sam Blumberger (Bacon Academy) has played in 10 games for the Bloomsburg University men’s soccer team and freshman defender Micah Diggs (Fitch) has appeared in eight, starting four.

    • Freshman Lily Massung (East Lyme) is helping anchor the defense for the Buffalo State women’s soccer team, seeing action in 15 games including six starts.

    • Springfield junior Blane Hart (East Lyme) caught a 45-yard touchdown pass and rushed for a 5-yard score in a 45-7 rout of WPI on Saturday. He finished with 25 yards rushing in four carries while his brother Cam had four tackles.

    • Also at Springfield, freshman Sarah Healy (East Lyme) has appeared in six games for the field hockey team.

    Callie Nanos (Lyman Memorial) is contributing off the bench in her first season playing for the Rivier College volleyball team. Winners of 10 straight overall, Rivier leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a 10-0 mark.

    • Freshman Hannah Daniewicz (NFA) knocked in two goals and added an assist in the Salve Regina women’s soccer team’s 4-3 win over Roger Willams on Thursday. Her first goal came 43 seconds into the game and her second 43 seconds into the second half. She’s first on the team in goals (seven), assists (four) and points (18).

    Camel highlights

    • With one regular-season game to go Tuesday against Wesleyan, the Connecticut College women’s soccer team is clinging to the eighth and final berth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship tournament. The Camels are 3-4-2 in the league, 7-5-2 overall. Quarterfinals begin on Saturday.

    On the men’s side, the defending national champion Camels (7-4-3, 3-4-2) are in eighth place heading into the regular-season finale against Wesleyan.

    Tracking the Bears

    • This also is a big final week of the regular season for the Coast Guard Academy men’s soccer team.

    The Bears are tied for fourth place with WPI at 2-2-2 in the league, with Wheaton close behind at 1-2-3. They can clinch a top-five finish and a conference tournament berth with a win against Emerson on Saturday. They haven’t allowed a goal in the last four games, going 2-0-2 during that span.

    Mariners riding a wave

    • Mitchell College freshman Lauren Cordero earned New England Collegiate Conference women’s soccer rookie of the week honors after scoring her first goal — a game-winner — in a 2-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene on Oct 18. A win in one of the two remaining games will give the Mariners (5-6-3 overall) their most victories in a season since 2011.
