    Local roundup: NFA boys’ soccer settles things in overtime

    Groton — Dante Guarnaccia scored on an assist from Rood Apolon to give Norwich Free Academy a 2-1 overtime win over Fitch in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game Wednesday.

    Louis Hawkins scored and Ethan Williams added an assist for NFA (9-4-1, 4-2).

    Ryan Greene scored for Fitch (4-12, 1-5) and Nathan Virtue had 15 saves.

    In other games:

    • Robert Stoddard scored two goals in East Lyme’s 3-0 victory over Woodstock Academy on Senior Night. Connor Moran had a goal, Nolan Whritenour an assist and Connor Piper nine saves for the Vikings (9-3-3 overall, 6-0 ECC Division I).

    • Evan Merchant had two goals and two assists and Dylan Fryer added 13 saves and an assist to pace Griswold past Killingly 4-3 in an ECC Division III contest. Seth Christie and Tyler Silva scored for Griswold (7-7-1, 3-5) and Justyn Blanchard added an assist.

    • Five different players scored for St. Bernard as it downed Tourtellotte 5-1 in an ECC Division IV game. Theo Burrell, Ben Howes, Jose Pacheco, Ben Syphrett and Ben Wenzel all scored for the Saints (12-1-1, 8-0) and Dan O’Brien and Tim Regan combined on four saves. Dylan Johnson scored for the Tourtellotte.

    • Jayden Lyons scored the go-ahead goal at 75:58 on an assist from Derek Cooper as Plainfield edged Wheeler 2-1 in an ECC Division IV game. Jake Taylor scored for Plainfield and Edward White had an assist. Matt Carroll scored, Keiran Boscoe had the assist and Johnny Anderson had two saves for Wheeler (6-7-2, 3-4-1).

    • Montville defeated Lyman Memorial 3-1 behind goals from Colby Cowan, Anthony Martin and Cater Vasington. Aaron Gould added an assist and Mason Snurkowski had 5 saves for Montville (8-5-2, 4-2-1 ECC Divsion III). James Hiltz made seven saves for Lyman (4-10, 2-5-1) and Nicholas Zaprianov scored.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Jess English scored and Jess Dudley earned the shutout for Ledyard in a 1-0 victory over Cromwell. Ledyard is 9-5-1.

    • Jordan Fabry had a goal and an assist while Emily Tucker had a pair of assists to highlight Norwich Free Academy’s 4-0 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I match on Tuesday night. Hayleigh Young, Brooke Bolles and Alyssa Newson each added a goal for the Wildcats (7-7-1, 4-2), Colbie Gisleson had an assist and goalie Ava Boenig made three saves. Grace Jenkins stopped 11 shots for Fitch (1-13-1, 0-6).

    • Waterford and Killingly battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw in an ECC Division II match on Tuesday night. The Lancers (6-7-2, 2-4-2) held a 13-3 edge in shots and goalie Victoria Sturm made one save.

    Girls’ volleyball

    • Nalyce Dudley had 22 digs, 11 service points, nine kills and an ace as New London beat Cromwell 23-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-23 for its first victory of the season. Nyarah Dudley had 17 digs, 15 service points and seven aces for the Whalers (1-17), Princesse Omotosho had 11 assists, Kmara Royster nine kills, Ky-Ani Allgood one ace, one block and two kills and Serenity Lancaster six kills and a block.

    • Kuranda Ruggiero had 20 assists, 18 digs, four kills and two aces as unbeaten Griswold downed Law 25-20, 25-19, 25-10. Emily Aviles had 18 digs, Makayla Neilson had nine kills and three blocks and Katelyn Pasieka added three kills, three blocks and two aces for the Wolverines (18-0).

    • Abby Butremovic had 21 digs and Anna Ruggeri added 15 assists as Wheeler swept Killingly 25-15, 25-19, 25-21. Skyler Morgan had seven kills and six aces for Wheeler (13-5).

    • Emerson Lane had 14 kills to lift Waterford past Hand 28-26, 25-18, 25-15. Marina Colonis had 15 digs and nine kills, Lillian Steinhaus 22 assists and seven digs and Erica Mugovero 11 digs.

    • Hale-Ray beat Old Lyme 25-15, 25-20, 25-22 in a Shoreline Conference match. Jamie Bucior had 20 digs and three aces, Peighton Andrews had 10 digs and six kills and Kelly Sheehan had four blocks for Old Lyme (5-14, 3-13).

    • Wilcox Tech beat Norwich Tech 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23 in a Connecticut Technical Conference match. Kaylee Gray had 10 kills 14 digs, Caitlyn Flynn had 16 digs and Olivia Luurtsema had five digs and three aces for Norwich Tech (10-7, 8-4).

    • Morgan defeated Montville 25-15, 25-15, 25-22. Alyna Ovalles had nine digs and Karla Flores added five kills and two digs for Montville (6-14).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Meg Bache, Emma Bransfield and Halley Pierson scored as the Westbrook/Old Lyme co-op topped Waterford 3-0. Myan Nguyen had two assists, Delaney Belcourt had an assist and Abby Demers had three saves for the co-op (8-6-2). Emma Smathers had four saves for the Lancers (6-8-0-1).

    Men’s soccer

    • Kyle Burbage scored on a feed from Philip Cubeddu at 47:59 to break a tie and give Wesleyan a 2-1 win over Connecticut College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game and the regular-season finale for both teams. Oliver Clarke scored on a penalty kick for Wesleyan (8-4-3, 4-3-3) and Blanc Mathis had seven saves. Oury Diane scored for the Camels (7-5-3, 3-5-2) and Marco Cerezo had the assist.

    • Wiskens Flavil scored twice for New England College in its 4-2 win over Mitchell in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Anthony Aguiar and Tucker Stenger scored for New England College (7-7-1, 3-1-0) and Hayden Walker had nine saves. Nolan Clark and Dylan Lucey scored for the Mariners (5-9-0, 1-3-0) and William Scala and Flavio Alvarado each had an assist.

    Women’s soccer

    • Karagan Bulger scored in the 76th minute to lift Coast Guard past Mount Holyoke 1-0 in a New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference game. Emily Scharnitzky had a save for Coast Guard (6-8-2, 3-5-1). Clarissa Govea had nine saves for the Lyons (2-14-1, 1-8).

    Women’s volleyball

    • Eliana Baran had 31 assists and 13 kills to lead Eastern Nazarene past Mitchell 25-15, 28-26, 25-12 in an NECC match. Eastern Nazarene is 20-1, 5-1. Claire Binfield had 25 assists, Allison Blum had 12 kills and nine digs and Olivia DeLoach had 10 digs and six aces for Mitchell (10-11, 0-4).
