    Local roundup: East Lyme, Killingly, Thames River to honor military with special uniforms

    The Thames River Crusaders and Eastern Connecticut Conference schools East Lyme and Killingly will wear specially designed Connecticut National Guard jerseys featuring a camouflage pattern during in upcoming games.

    Governor Ned Lamont, in conjunction with the guard, announced Thursday that four high school games will be held November to hold Military Appreciation games in honor of currently serving members of the military and veterans.

    East Lyme will be the first to wear the special jerseys during Friday’s game at home against Norwich Free Academy at 6:30 p.m. Killingly will follow on Thursday, Nov. 10, during its home game against Stonington at 6:30, and Thames River will play the final game against O’Brien Tech on Friday, Nov. 18 at Grasso Tech in Groton at 6 p.m.

    The fourth game will feature Lyman Hall of Wallingford wearing the camouflage jerseys for its Nov. 11 home game against Branford at 6:30 p.m.

    “I applaud these schools and sports programs for taking the time to honor our military, local Guardsmen, and veterans who have served and continue to serve for the greater good of our state, nation, and communities,” Gov. Lamont said in a release . “This partnership is a good way to bring together the Guard and high school students to honor those who have served in the military, and also emphasize for those students the benefits of military service.”

    Week 9 of high school football season begins on Friday night with six local games, including the a battle for first place in ECC Division II between unbeaten Windham and Ledyard at Bill Mignault Field at 6 p.m.

    The other Friday matchups included Cheney Tech at Thames River, 6 p.m.; NFA at East Lyme, 6:30 p.m.’ Griswold/Wheeler at Stonington, 6:30 p.m.; Waterford at Killingly, 6:30 p.m.; and Valley/Old Lyme at Stafford/EW/Somers, 6:30 p.m.

    The Saturday schedule includes Bacon Academy New London, 11 a.m.; Fitch at Woodstock Academy, 1 p.m.; and Montville at Weaver, 1 p.m.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Top-seeded Prince Tech defeated Norwich Tech 25-18, 25-5, 20-25 and 25-8 in the Connectcut Techncial Conference tournament semifinals. Alyssa Mikolajczak had five blocks for the No. 5 Warriors (11-10) and Sierra Knowles added four kills.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Williams School won its home finale with a 5-1 win over Westover on Wednesday. Skylar Frost had three goals and an assist to lead the Blues while Marlee Anselmi and Lucy Fader each had a goal and an assist.
