Local roundup: Conn College falls to Colby
Waterville, Maine ˗ Connecticut College lost to Colby 75-71 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s basketball game on Sunday.
David Murray scored 20 points and had 16 rebounds for Conn (12-8, 3-3), which has lost four straight after a four-game winning streak. Jarron Flynn scored 19 points and Cam Schainfeld had 13 points and four assists for the Camels.
Women’s basketball
• Colby beat Conn College 47-46 in a NESCAC game. Caroline Smith of Colby drew a foul with 0.1 seconds left and made the first of her two free throws to break a 46-46 tie.
Jaycie Rojik led Conn (7-12, 1-5) with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Rebecca Oberman-Levine had 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for the Camels, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Women’s hockey
• Nicky Harnett made 22 saves to lead New Hampshire to a 3-0 win over UConn in a Hockey East game. Kira Juodikis, Emily Richwood and Annie Berry scored for New Hampshire (10-18, 8-13). Megan Warrener made 15 saves for UConn (16-10-3, 10-9-3).
Men’s hockey
• Jake Johnson scored the go-ahead goal with 15:29 left in the third period as Quinnipiac rallied past UConn, 4-3, to win the CT Ice Tournament championship on Saturday night. Ethan de Jong had two goals and an assist for Quinnipiac (20-3-3), which trailed 3-2 after two periods. Justin Pearson had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (16-8-3) while Samu Salminen and Hudson Schandor both scored.
