    Local roundup: Fitch co-op clinches ECC boys’ swimming regular-season title

    Groton — Jacob Lin and Mike Urgo each won two events as the Fitch boys’ swimming co-op clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference regular-season title with a 97-70 win over East Lyme on Friday.

    Lin won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.15) and 100 butterfly (54.86) for the Falcons (5-0, 5-0), and Urgo captured the 200 individual medley (2:06.73) and 100 freestyle (49.08).

    Sohum Balsara also won an event for Fitch, which swept the three relays behind the efforts of Jack Ballou, Harrison Bied, Sam Ainscough, Luke Lambert, Colin Westkott, Lin, Urgo and Balsara.

    Ken Chen (50 freestyle), Adit Sahasrabudhe (100 breaststroke) and Albert Zhu (100 backstroke) won events for the Vikings (3-2, 3-2).

    Boys’ basketball

    • Deondre Bransford had 16 points and 11 rebounds as Wheeler rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Montville, 47-44, and remain unbeaten in ECC Division IV play. Zane Brewer had 14 points and 8 rebounds and Keith Zardies had eight points and 4 rebounds for the Lions (11-4, 6-0), who outscored Montville 15-8 in the final period. Lebron Maurice scored 16 points for Montville (5-8, 3-4) and Anthony Barbuto and Jace Kobyluck both scored 13.

    • Calvin Neff’s basket in the final second lifted Williams School to a 41-40 win over Eagle Hill. Neff took a pass from Sam Kaplan and made a layup to win the game. Jackson Raisbeck led the Blues with 11 points, five assists and seven rebounds and Ben Xenelis scored 10 with three steals.

    • Yianni Baribeau scored 22 points as Killingly rallied to beat Bacon Academy 50-44 in an ECC Division III game. Killingly ended the game on a 15-1 run. Elijah Black had 28 points for Bacon (8-9, 2-5).

    • Travis Mangual Jr. had 17 points as Windham edged Ledyard 66-64 in an ECC Division II game. James Green scored a game-high 22 for Ledyard (1-13, 0-7) and Liam Stalbush scored 16.

    • Windham Tech beat Grasso Tech 91-51 in a Connecticut Technical Conference Charter Oak East game. Keron Wilson had 13 points and Charis Johnson scored 10 for Grasso (5-9, 4-2).

    • Malaki Mercado and Bradley Saint Louis each scored 20 as Norwich Tech celebrated Senior Night with a 67-49 win over Ellis Tech in a CTC Charter Oak East Division game on Thursday night. Jack Gahrman scored 12 for Norwich Tech (4-12, 2-4), which outscored the Eagles 43-21 over the second and third quarters.

    Girls’ basketball

    • Hale-Ray outscored Old Lyme 13-4 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 54-38 Shoreline Conference win. Ava Roth led Old Lyme (1-14, 1-2) with 19 points, nine steals, six rebounds and four assists, Abby O’Brien scored 11 and Sybil Neary had nine rebounds. Kenzie Purdell led Hale-Ray with 23 points.

    • Lindsay Todd scored 20 points as East Lyme beat Fitch 43-40 in overtime in an ECC Division I game on Thursday night. Izzy Pazzaglia had 11 points for the Vikings (7-10, 2-3). Mariette El Khoury scored 20 and Ada Ellis had 10 points for the Falcons (10-6, 3-2).

    Men’s basketball

    • David Murray had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals as Connecticut College beat Amherst 65-57 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Jarron Flynn had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals for Conn (13-8, 4-3) and Andrew Hartel scored 11 with 8 rebounds. Cam Schainfeld added 11 points.

    • Waterford’s Mikey Buscetto scored 20 points with six assists as Mitchell College beat SUNY Purchase 77-63 on Thursday night for its sixth straight win. Alfonzo Stokes had 16 points and five rebounds, New London’s Jalen Benson had 11 points and five rebounds and Ahmani Browne had eight points and seven rebounds for the Mariners (16-3).

    Women’s basketball

    • Kori Barach had 18 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals as Amherst beat Conn College 58-47 in a NESCAC game. Maya Cwalina had 17 points and 8 rebounds for Amherst (15-7, 3-5). Rebecca Oberman-Levine had 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Camels (7-13, 1-6) and Jaycie Rojik had 14 points and 6 rebounds.

    • UConn graduate student Dorka Juhász was named a 2023 Lisa Leslie Award Top 10 candidate, an honor which goes to the nation’s top center. Juhász, a native of Pecs, Hungary, is averaging a double-double with season with 15.0 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

    Men’s hockey

    • Devan Newhook scored 1 minute, 45 seconds into overtime to give Conn College a 4-3 win over Tufts in a NESCAC game. Brett Moccia, John Russo and Seth Stadheim scored for Conn (4-15, 1-12) and Cam Fernandez had 32 saves.

    Women’s hockey

    • Morgan Bronstein scored a pair of goals as Connecticut College beat Manhattanville 3-2. Melanie Conca had a goal and Abby Wieczorek made 10 saves for the Camels (11-7-1), who have won three straight.
