    H.S. roundup: No. 1 New London advances to ECC D-I semifinals

    New London — Sophomore Serenity Lancaster erupted for 40 points as top-seeded New London rolled to a 74-30 victory over No. 8 Woodstock Academy in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ basketball tournament on Thursday night.

    Lancaster also had 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots for the Whalers (15-6), who will play No. 5 Fitch in Saturday’s semifinals at Plainfield High School at 6 p.m. No. 2 Bacon Academy will face No. 3 Ledyard in the first semifinal at 4 p.m.

    Nalyce Dudley added 21 points,11 rebounds, four steals and three assists for New London, which outscored the Centaurs 26-6 in the second quarter to break the game open, while Nyarah Dudley finished with six points and 10 rebounds.

    In other games:

    • Alannah Baehr had 10 points and 10 rebounds, including four straight free throws in the final two minutes, as No. 2 Bacon Academy pulled away from No. 7 East Lyme 52-40 in the Division I quarters. Marissa Nudd scored 15 points for the Bobcats (18-3) and moved into third place as the program’s all-time leading scorer, passing Taylor McLaughlin (Class of 2013), while Skylelyn Schoen-Rene added nine points and nine rebounds. Izzy Pazzaglia scored 15 points for the Vikings (7-14).

    • Kieara Kirvan scored a game-high 20 points as No. 3 Ledyard defeated No. 6 Killingly 53-35 in the Division I quarters. Adrianna Hardison added 13 points and five assists for the Colonels (12-9) while Helena Robinson had eight rebounds and Monet Augmon had five steals. Arianna Headen scored 14 points for Killingly.

    • Kassidy LaTour scored 14 points as top-seeded Lyman Memorial survived a scare before defeating No. 8 Wheeler, 36-34 in overtime, in the Division II quarterfinals. Lyman (15-6) will play No. 5 Stonington, a 59-39 winner over No. 4 St. Bernard, in Saturday’s semifinals at Plainfield at 1 p.m. LaTour also had 10 rebounds while Phoebe Carpenter had 11 rebounds and five steals, Juliana Haynes 10 rebouinds and Jenny Lopez nine points and six steals for the Bullodgs. Abby Butremovic scored 14 points for the Lions (6-13) while Marissa Perkins added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Devan Williams scored a career-high 43 points, including three 3-pointers, as New London ended its regular season with a 76-58 non-league road victory over East Hartford. Da’Shaun Phillips added eight points and Xavier Goode seven for the Whalers (16-4) while Richard Taylor pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

    • Lebron Maurice scored 34 points as Montville qualified for the Division IV state tournament with a 64-46 victory over Ledyard. Montville is 8-10 while the Colonels are 2-17.

    • Oliver Hibbard had 20 points and seven rebounds as East Lyme defeated Prince Tech 71-61 in a non-conference game. Brendan Osso added 18 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Vikings (6-13) while Owen Elmer finished with 11 points and five assists.

    • Caleb Brennan scored 12 points in Grasso Tech’s 53-39 non-conference loss to Hale-Ray. The Eagles are 6-12.

    • Tom Balanieau had 13 points as Stafford started fast and beat Norwich Tech, 53-41, on Wednesday night. Collin Gudemeun scored 11 for Stafford (9-10), which led 17-7 after the first quarter. Josh Hanks had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals for the Warriors (5-14) and Bradley Saint Louis added 12 points and.4 rebounds.

    H.S. hockey

    • North Branford defeated the Eastern Connecticut Eagles 5-1 on Wednesday night. Kaden Casteel scored an unassisted goal for the Eagles (5-9) while goalie Cam McCollum made 26 saves.
