Norwich — Dave Cornish and Norwich Free Academy have mutually parted ways, leaving NFA in search of a boys’ basketball coach.

“It was the best decision for all of us,” Cornish said by phone Wednesday morning.

Cornish was at NFA for two seasons, leading the Wildcats to the CIAC Division I quarterfinals in 2022.

Cornish, a longtime assistant at New London, resuscitated the program at Ledyard in 2012, leading the 1-19 team from the previous season to the state Class M quarterfinals.

Cornish was the coach of Ledyard’s 2017 Eastern Connecticut Conference Tournament championship team and coached several teams there to deep runs in the state tournament.

Cornish succeeded Chris Guisti, who left NFA after winning consecutive ECC Tournament titles.
