    Local roundup: NFA tops Waterford in ECC Div. I baseball matchup

    Waterford -- Chris Southworth and Jonas Tiburcio each singled in two runs to help Norwich Free Academy beat Waterford, 5-3, in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball action on Monday.

    Daniel St. George earned the win, striking out nine and allowing four hits in five innings, and Logan Deshefy went the final two innings to get the save.

    Ayden Kempesta added a double for the Wildcats (6-1, 1-0).

    Brian Ingraham singled twice and scored a run for the Lancers (5-2, 0-1).

    In other games:

    • Alex Dreyfus allowed just two hits while striking out six and walking two, leading East Lyme past Fitch, 10-0, in a five inning ECC Division I game. Liam Cochrane had a single, triple and four RBI while Quinn Killoy went 2 for 2 with two RBI for the Vikings (6-1, 1-0). Trace Morales and Griffin Pollard each had a single for the Falcons (1-5, 0-1).

    • Joe Basso broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the fifth inning and added a two-run home run in the sixth to power St. Bernard past Lyman Memorial, 7-0, in ECC Division IV action. Luca Muscarella had a two run single and Ryan Ziegler earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out six in a complete game effort for the Saints (6-0, 1-0). Mike Incontro had a double for the Bulldogs (2-4, 0-1).

    • Killingly broke open a close game by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning and went on to beat Stonington, 12-4, in Division III action. Lincoln Waterman had two doubles for Killingly. Alex Starr and Jace Wolfradt each had two hits for the Bears (3-5, 0-1).

    • Winning pitcher Josh Ambrose allowed three hits and struck out eight in five innings, leading Bacon Academy over Windham, 14-1. The Bobcats are 4-2 overall, 1-1 in Division II.

    • Josh Hanks and Logan Spillane scored three runs each as Norwich Tech beat Montville 11-7. Hanks singled and doubled and Kaleb DelMastro and John Mastrorakis also had doubles for the Warriors (4-3). Dan Hess was the winning pitcher and DelMastro earned a save.

    Boys’ lacrosse

    • Drew Sager scored five goals and had an assist as East Lyme beat Waterford 15-3 in an ECC Division I game. Jack Campbell and Sawyer Tighe each had three goals and an assist and Gavin White had a goal and two assists for the Vikings (3-3, 3-0) while Aiden Patterson had had goal and an assist, Juan Morales and Jack Keating each scored a goal, Reagan Pierce had two assists and Spencer Sherman made eight saves.

    Jackson Huta, Trevor Stringer and C.J. Landry scored, Ben Dubicki had an assist and Dylan McCarthy made seven saves for the Lancers (4-1, 2-1).

    H.S. softball

    • Grasso Tech beat Cheney Tech 21-11 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Emma Pavlak homered, Camryn Hobbs and Nicole Bothelo had doubloes and A’zarria Darden was the winning pitcher for the Eagles (1-4).

    Boys’ volleyball

    • Jhon Lopez Choc had seven aces, eight digs and a kill in Norwich Free Academy’s 3-0 sweep of HMTCA. Game scores were 25-5, 25-21 and 25-18. Evan Keith had four kills and three blocks and Gage Hinkley added six aces and three kills for the Wildcats (4-2).

    Girls’ lacrosse

    • Senior Lucy Fader chipped in seven goals and an assist in the Williams School’s 14-13 loss to Harvey School. Ally Iacobellis added three goals and Amaya Butler had two goals for the Blues (1-4). Skylar Frost also had a goal and goalie Phoebe Taylor made 11 saves.

    Boys’ golf

    • Gianni Drab won his match a 44, but Fitch lost to Morgan, 6-1. The Falcons fell to 0-2.

    Girls’ golf

    • Maya Orbegozo was the medalist with a 53, leading Woodstock past Stonington, 234-249, at Elmridge Golf Course. Lily Van Zandt had the low score (60) for the Bears.

    College baseball

    • Nate Gryzbowski homered and drove in four runs as Avery Point beat Holyoke Community College 12-3. Joaquin Brasher went six innings for the win for the Pointers (19-8).

    Avery Point swept a doubleheader from Monroe Community College on Sunday, winning the opener 4-3 and the second game 4-0. Xavier Burgos was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and Elian Collado doubled and won the opener with an RBI single.

    The Pointers got a shutout from Liam Chamberlain in Game 2. Chamberlain pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and Riley Carew backed him with a 3-for-3 performance with a double, homer and three RBI.

    College women’s lacrosse

    • Daniella Holland scored five goals for Mitchell College in an 18-8 loss at Albertus Magnus. Jessica Krupnikoff had two goals and Rachel Ricciuti added one for the Mariners (3-7). Amanda McGeehan led Albertus Magnus (1-13) with five goals and one assist.
