    H.S. softball: NFA hands Fitch first ECC Divison I loss by outslugging Falcons 12-7

    Groton — Winning pitcher Hailey Smith also had a single, triple and scored two runs as Norwich Free Academy handed Fitch its first Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball defeat with a 12-7 win over the Falcons on Thursday at Washington Park.

    Madisyn Porter had three hits for the Wildcats (5-3, 0-1) while Melina Graziano had two hits, two stolen bases and two runs and Elena Sustache had a base hit, stolen base and run.

    Grace Cosmopoulos went 3-for-4 with a home run for Fitch (4-3, 1-1) while Katie MacPherson was 3-for-4 and Hailey Merrill had a pair of singles.

    In other games:

    • Waterford erupted for five runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 7-3 win over East Lyme in an ECC Division I game. Ava Waddington had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Lancers (6-2, 2-0) while Charlotte Jessuck, Melanie Martin and winning pitcher Anna Dziecinny each had RBI singles. Abby Robinson had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings (4-3, 0-2) while Avery Stadler, Arlene McKiernan and Grace Dubrava had two htis apiece.

    • Rylee Benway had three doubles with five RBI and three runs scored as Lyman Memorial beat Putnam 19-1 in a five-inning ECC Division IV game. Lena-Maria Byers added three hits, including a double, with three runs and four RBI for the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-0) while Hannah Gendron drove in two runs and scored three and winning pitcher Kassidy LaTour had a two-run double.

    • Stonington erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and defeated Plainfield 14-10 in an ECC Division III game. Melanie Verbridge was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Bears (6-3, 2-0) while Madi Allard was 3-for-5 with two doubles, Sophia Dutra was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs and Kelsea Anderson homered and drove in two runs.

    • Katie Scribner allowed only two hits as St. Bernard beat Tourtellotte 18-5 in a six-inning ECC Division IV game. Maddie Scribner led the Saints (3-3, 1-1) on offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs and a double, while Alyssa Lazarou had a single, double, three runs and four RBI, Olivia Kane was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Aubrey Nygaard had a double, two RBI and two runs.

    • Killingly rallied for three runs in the seventh to tie the game and then beat Ledyard 7-6 in nine innings in an ECC Division II game. Mia Starling and Faith Dalton had three hits apiece for the Colonels (2-5, 0-2) and Layla Lasisomphone added two.Norwich Tech defeated Ellis Tech 13-6 to improve to 7-1.

    • Caity Flynn pitched a four-hitter and also had a home run, two singles and four RBI to highlight Norwich Tech’s 13-6 win over Ellis Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Khai Maldonado went 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIfor the Warriors (7-1, 3-0) while Emily Grant was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs, Nyomi Barboza had a triple and Morgan Cook a double.

    • Ava Gero homered and drove in four runs as Montville beat Windham 16-2 in a five-inning ECC Division III game. Taryn Feragne and Isabella Mitchell each went 3-for-4 with a double and home run for Montville (1-7, 1-1) while Amelia Smarz had two doubles and winning pitcher Madeline Daniels had eight strikeouts.
