    Local college roundup: Mitchell baseball sweeps as Beausoleil earns his 300th career win

    Lexington, Mass. – The Mitchell College baseball team remained unbeaten in New England Collegiate Conference play by sweeping Lesley University on Saturday and giving coach Travis Beausoleil his 300th win with the Mariners.

    The Mariners (27-6, 10-0) won the opener 8-3 and 7-0 in the second game to give Beausoleil, who began coaching at Mitchell in 2012, his milestone win.

    Eddie Kaftan of Old Lyme pitched a four-hitter in Game 2 with two strikeouts and no walks. Owen Robbins of East Lyme drove in two runs in each game, Bo Yaworski drove in three runs in Game 1 and Montville’s Robbie DelaCruz was 3-for-4 in Game 2.

    In other games:

    • Avery Point swept a doubleheader at Southern Maine CC, winning the opener 2-1 and the second game 5-0. Tiernan Powers allowed one run over six innings with seven strikeouts to win the opener and Liam Chamberlain threw six shutout innings in Game 2 with four strikeouts. Jaden Echevarria had an RBI double in Game 2 for the Pointers (22-8) and Keegan Daigle earned a save in the opener.

    • Coast Guard split a doubleheader in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference with WPI, winning the opener 6-4 and losing the second game 5-0. Parker Madden had three doubles and drove in two runs and Blake Carroll and Richard Barkley homered in the opener for the Bears (13-14, 6-6).

    • UConn split a Big East doubleheader with Georgetown, winning the opener 6-3 before losing the second game 6-2. Luke Broadhurst homered and doubled in the opener and David Smith had three hits in the two games for the Huskies (29-11, 6-3).

    Softball

    • Coast Guard swept Wellesley in a NEWMAC doubleheader, winning the opener 10-5 and the second game 8-0 in five innings. Lillia Farlow doubled, homered and drove in three runs and winning pitcher Isabelle Shroyer was 3-for-4. Maura Murphy had a two-run double and a two-run homer in Game 2 for the Bears (24-8, 10-4) and Dana Walker pitched a two-hitter.

    • Mitchell swept a doubleheader against Lesley in the NECC, winning the opener 8-0 and the second game 9-1. Both games went six innings. Katelyn Lipsky pitched a one-hitter in the opener with five strikeouts. Emily Reynolds allowed three hits in five innings of Game 2 for the win with four strikeouts and Griswold’s Hailey Hill pitched a scoreless sixth.

    Brooke Whitmarsh was 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the opener for the Mariners (19-15, 9-1), Montville’s Brooke Taylor was 3-for-3 with two RBI in Game 2 and Gemma Landry had two hits each game for Mitchell.

    • Grace Jenkins had two hits and drove in three runs as UConn beat Creighton 10-5 in a Big East game. Aziah James (two RBI) and Rosie Garcia had two hits each and Savannah Ring scored twice for the Huskies (30-11, 17-3).

    Men’s lacrosse

    • Mitchell ended its season with a 22-4 loss to New England College in an NECC game. Weston Schumacher had a goal and an assist, Dylan Kinsella, Montville’s Xavier Haney and New London’s Jon Parra-Tobey scored goals and Keeano Gonzalez of New London had an assist for the Mariners (0-14, 0-4).

    • Coast Guard lost to Springfield 17-3 in a NEWMAC game. Ian Feely and Gaige Kruger scored goals and Taylor Gustafson had an assist for the Bears (4-8, 1-4), who also scored a team goal.

    • Connecticut College lost to Bowdoin 13-9 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Jared Rainville, Patrick Atkins and Liam Horken had two goals each for the Camels (5-7, 3-6).

    Women’s lacrosse

    • Coast Guard fell to Babson 19-8 in a NEWMAC game. Caitlyn Coates scored three goals, Gianna Cascio had two goals, Abby McAllister had a goal and an assist and Brenda Anderson had three assists for the Bears (10-5, 6-2).

    • Bowdoin beat Conn College 15-10 in a NESCAC game. Campbell Johnston and Emily Yorns had three goals each and Kate Coughlin scored twice the the Camels (5-8, 1-8).

    Women’s water polo

    • Second-seeded Conn College lost to No. 3 Austin College 19-11 in the semfinials of the CWPA Division III Championship at St. Paul, Minn. Emma Luna scored four goals, Gigi Sandull had three goals and Maria Sell and Brooke Brandenburger had two goals each for the Camels (10-8), who will play host Macalester College in the third-place game today at 1 p.m. Conn beat No. 7 Wittenberg College 10-9 in double overtime in the quarterfinals on Friday. Luna scored three times and Sandull and Sell had two goals each.

    Men’s tennis

    • No. 4 Coast Guard lost to top-seeded Babson 5-1 in the NEWMAC tournament semifinals. Myles Decoste and Charles Norman of Coast Guard (6-9) won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
