    H.S. roundup: Waterford tops NFA 4-1 in ECC Div. I softball

    Waterford – Brielle Kenney pitched a four-hitter as Waterford rallied for a 4-1 win over NFA in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball game on Tuesday.

    The Lancers (11-4, 4-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lyra DeAngelis had a two-run single and Ava Majeski doubled home a run. Kenney struck out three with no walks.

    Grace Muti and Charlotte Jessuck had two hits each and Anna Dziecinny and Paige Jessuck each had a double for Waterford. Hailey Smith doubled and Elena Sustache had an RBI single for NFA (11-4, 2-2).

    In other games:

    • New London scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning and held on to beat Windham Tech 15-12 in a nonleague game.

    Alina Skrabacz pitched a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts and eight walks for the win. Nichelle Tucker had three hits and drove in six runs, Gabriella Santiago Cruz and Skrabacz (double) had two hits each for the Whalers (5-8) and Yomairis Santiago, Jadelise Garrett and Skrabacz each scored three runs.

    • Makayla Delzer was 5-for-6 and scored three runs as Wheeler beat Bacon Academy 15-10. Addie Stanley, Morgyn Perkins and winning pitcher Reese Main had three hits each for the Lions (8-5) and Abby Butremovic doubled and tripled. Victoria Kleeman, Main and Stanley drove in three runs each. Ava McCarvill was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Meghan Walsh doubled and drove in three runs for Bacon (2-9).

    Girls’ golf

    • Caroline Godere of NFA won the Wildcat Invitational at Norwich Golf Course. Godere shot a 50. Maya Orbergozo of Woodstock Academy and NFA’s Madeline Smith tied for second at 53 and Liliana Bottone of Woodstock was fourth with a 55. Kendra St. Marie of Killingly and Erin O’Farrell of NFA tied for fifth with 57s and Mia Belcamino of Bacon (58) also broke 60. NFA won the team title and Woodstock was second.

    Boys’ tennis

    • Old Lyme suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Morgan 4-3. Griffin McGlinchey and Aidan Kerrigan won their matches for the Wildcats (13-1), who already wrapped up the Shoreline Conference title. Micah Bass and Will Danes won at No. 1 doubles for Old Lyme, who was missing singles player Charles Hinckley to a knee injury.

    • Stonington only lost four games en route to a 7-0 win over Ledyard. Brady O’Neil, Matthew Turrisi, Chase Donnarummo and Jackson Conlon won their matches for the Bears (10-1) along with the doublesw teams of Conrad Tobiassen-Tucker Callahan, Sam Lund-Joshua Lord and Owen Grant-Peter Schoencker. Ledyard is 6-5.

    • Christos Matsos, Ian Balfour, Peter Colonis and Noah Westkott were straight-set winners during Waterford’s 7-0 win over St. Bernard/Wheeler on Monday night. The Lancers (6-4) also picked up doubles wins from Alistair Haglun-Louis Dhervilly, Andrew Bertrand-Arthury Dhervilly and Adam Balfour-Colton Murch. The Saints are 2-6.

    Girls’ tennis

    • Fitch beat Montville 7-0. Julia Mielguj, Charlotte Beaulieu and Maddie Beaulieu won in straight sets for the Falcons (9-4) along with the doubles teams of Izzy Ash-Ada Ellis and Sophie Ash-Kelly Turley, dropping just three games. Montville (0-9) forfeited two matches.

    Volleyball

    • NFA lost in five sets to Wolcott Tech, falling by game scores of 25-16, 20-25, 24-26, 32-30 and 14-16 on Monday night. Gage Hinkley had 13 kills, four digs, four blocks and four aces while Jhon Lopez added 25 digs and Paul Ericson chipped in 37 assists, 11 digs, seven kills and two aces for the Wildcats (12-4).
